The sixth in Editorial Intelligence’s Comment Conference series, The Manufacturing Economy examined the wealth of manufacturing industries in the UK; current and new models for manufacturing and the productivity benefits to investment in technological innovation and sustainable manufacturing. Engagement and skilling of young people into industry, design and the manufacturing sector as a whole was addressed as key to the future of the UK industry. Speakers across the day included:

Names Not Numbers is an international thought leadership symposium which brings together opinion formers in media, academia, politics, business, culture and technology. The Comment Awards, now in their third year, celebrate comment in all its forms- both print and online from the Commentariat across both newspapers and the blogosphere.
The Comment Awards 2011 category judges included Louise Chunn, Editor, Psychologies Magazine; Luke Johnson, Chair, RSA and Chief Executive, Risk Capital Partners; Jon Sopel, Presenter, BBC Politics Show and Baroness Shriti Vadera. The judging panel will be chaired by Harvey Goldsmith CBE.
